Issued by the Royal Mint ! a few words from the coa: JERSEY is the largest of the channel islands and lies a few miles from the north-west coast of france. the island covers an area of 45 square miles and there is a population of some 80,000. during its history jersey has been attacked many times by the french, the last occasion being the battle of jersey in 1781 when the french baron de rullecour and his forces landed and reached the capital of the island, st. helier.  in defence  of the island, major peirson, the senior military officer present, rallied the militia and garrison forces. a battle took place and the french forces surrendered. in commemoration of this historic event, the states of jersey treasury has authorised the royal mint to strike a limited number of gold and silver proof coins of the one pound denomination... the obverse of the coin depicts the arnold machin numismatic portrait of her majesty queen elizabeth ii, and the reverse features the badge of the royal jersey militia. the silver coin weighs 10.45 grammes and measures 25.4 mm and the issue is limited to 10,000 coins.
