Nettippattam is a typical symbol of Kerala tradition and handicraft. It is basically an ornamental wear that adorns the forehead of temple elephants of Kerala during festivals and processions. It is believed that Nettipattam was designed by Lord Brahma  and, Iravath the white elephant of Lord Indra, was the first lucky elephant to wear it. The Nettipattam, which is part of Hindu astrological craft and it represents the entire pantheon of gods in  Hinduism and so nettipattam is considered sacred and is a symbol of prosperity and wealth. Original Nettippattam for elephants is made out of pure Gold  plated over Copper.This makes the original nettippattams heavier and they cost several lakhs
