LOOKING OUT FOR STUDENTS TO TEACH CARNATIC MUSIC IN INDIA

I belong to a family of artistes and art lovers and grew up in an atmosphere filled with music (Carnatic and other genres), apart from other art forms. With a conscious and unconscious imbibing of the nuances through direct classes or by listening to my mother and aunt sing and conduct classes, I developed a deep passion for it over time. I believe that music is not merely an art form, but a way of life, with a special capacity to transport us to a sublime realm, so much so that we lose ourselves in the joy of singing. Both my grandmothers have formally learnt Carnatic music from great stalwarts and my grandfather too was a self taught and accomplished flautist and an ardent lover of music. My mother and her siblings all naturally took to music and are all active singers. My initial training began with my mother Lata Ravichandran and now I continue to learn from my mentor and aunt Savita Narasimhan, a leading Carnatic musician based in Chennai. I have had the opportunity to perform along with my aunt in concerts for the past two years. I have also been trained in Bharatanatyam by Padma Bhushan awardee Smt Alarmel Valli over the last 8 years. After my arangetram in , I have performed solo dance concerts for Krishna Gana Sabha and the Spirit of Youth series at the Music Academy, Chennai, besides participating in a number of group presentations. I hold a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Stella Maris College, Chennai where I was active in the cultural clubs and also received an award under the category of Classical Music. I also completed my Post-Graduate degree in the same subject from the University of Madras. At present I reside in Bangalore and am looking to start taking music classes for kids and females. There is nothing more satisfying for me than to share this great art form and also in the process keep enriching myself.
