3D Animation programming interfaces Artists typically complete their work in Maya by using its graphical user interface. The interface includes menus, dialog boxes, buttons, and so on to give users a visual means of performing actions. There is another way to perform these same actions. Maya programming allows users to complete the same tasks by writing and executing a program. This program can be developed using one of Maya's two programming interfaces: MEL or C++. MEL is an acronym for Maya Embedded Language. This is a custom programming language designed specifically to work inside Maya. Due to its simpler structure and syntax, it is easier and more widely accessible than the C++ programming interface. One of MEL's great strengths is that it is an interpreted language. While typical programming languages require that you compile and then link your source code, an interpreted language can be executed immediately. This ability to immediately execute your instructions means that MEL is particularly well suited to rapid prototyping. Making It – Dream Jobs in 3Danimation In response to an earlier question I received about “making it,” or how to get your dream job, I’d like to share some of my thoughts. Please note, these are join fu-vision only opinions on what I’ve noticed over the years. I found that “making it” often changes over the years. People have different priorities. I feel like I’ve always had my dream job(working on films, period) and for a long while “making it” for me was to make it to ILM and Pixar and work in the movies. That I havealways felt and feel pretty lucky about it. So, I’m not an expert and many other people probably will have additional suggestions ortheir takes on what “making it” implies. Formatting the script correctly. I often read scripts that are poorly formatted. Not only does it look unprofessional, but it is really hard to focus on the story and understanding it. Keeping the right format is a basic thing every writer needs to know. Script format A script consists of 3 main elements: •location •action •dialogue Location At the beginning of each scene we must declare the location. We do this in the following format: (a) interior or exterior? (b) a description of the location (c) is it day time of night time? EXAMPLE Action This is the place to describe the action that precedes or follows the dialogue. It is written without indention at the body of the script. When you first open Anime Studio Pro you should see a layout like that shown below. In the centre of thescreen is the main work area with a default character visible called Thorn. On the left is the Tools Palette,along the bottom is the Timeline and on the right are the Style Palette and Layers Palette. At the top of thescreen are the Main Menu Bar and just below it is the Tool Options Bar. The latter will open and offer extraoptions when tools are picked from the Tools Palette. In the case mainly used 2D animation based on flash works.Anime Studio Pro is so intuitive that you’ve probably already found the Manipulate Bones Tool in theBone section of the Tool Palette and had a go at moving the limbs of the character around. Feel free, ofcourse, to experiment some more but don’t spend too long as we need to get on with creating our character. Editing is usually considered to be one part of the post production process — other post-production tasks include titling, colour correction, sound mixing, etc. Many people use the term editing to describe all their post-production work, especially in non-professional situations. Whether or not you choose to be picky about terminology is up to you. In this tutorial we are reasonably liberal with our terminology and we use the word editing to mean any of the following: Rearranging, adding and/or removing sections of video clips and/or audio clips. Applying colour correction, filters and other enhancements. Creating transitions between clips. The Goals of Editing There are many reasons to edit a video and your editing approach will depend on the desired outcome. Before you begin you must clearly define your editing goals, which could include any of the following: Remove unwanted footage This is the simplest and most common task in editing. Many videos can be dramatically improved by simply getting rid of the flawed or unwanted bits. Choose the best footage It is common to shoot far more footage than you actually need and choose only the best material for the final edit. Often you will shoot several versions (takes) of a shot and choose the best one when editing. Create a flow Most videos serve a purpose such as telling a story or providing information. Editing is a crucial step in making sure the video flows in a way which achieves this goal. Add effects, graphics, music, etc This is often the "wow" part of editing. You can improve most videos (and have a lot of fun) by adding extra elements. Alter the style, pace or mood of the video A good editor will be able to create subtle mood prompts in a video. Techniques such as mood music and visual effects can influence how the audience will react. Give the video a particular "angle" Video can be tailored to support a particular viewpoint, impart a message or serve an agenda.
