BiPAP AVAPS C Series System One Improved patient care is now automatic. Philips Respironics BiPAP AVAPS automatically delivers optimal therapy even as patient needs change. System Overview: The BiPAP AVAPS is a Bi-level device (non-invasive ventilator) and is intended to augment patient breathing by supplying pressurised air through a patient circuit. It senses the patient’s breathing effort by monitoring airflow in the patient circuit and adjusts its output to assist in inhalation and exhalation. This therapy is known as Bi-level ventilation. Bi-level ventilation provides a higher pressure, known as IPAP (Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure), when you inhale, and a lower pressure, known as EPAP (Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure), when you exhale. The higher pressure makes it easier for you to inhale, and the lower pressure makes it easier for you to exhale. The device can also provide a single pressure level, known as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). Patients who develop chronic hypoventilation may find the BiPAP AVAPS a more comfortable and effective NIV therapy. For example, neuromuscular, COPD, and obesity hypoventilation patients are strong candidates for BiPAP AVAPS. AVAPS – advanced technology that simplifies patient care It’s the only way of ensuring the delivery of targeted tidal volume for your NIV patients. Shorthand for “Average Volume Assured Pressure Support,” AVAPS sets the standard in noninvasive ventilation.The exclusive AVAPS algorithm automatically adjusts pressure support to meet changing patient needs while maintaining a target tidal volume. System Features: The enhanced System One features a host of innovative technologies and features that improve both the patient and provider/clinician experience. Enhanced design will make the device look less like a medical device and better fit in the patient’s bedroom. The device features several special features to help make your therapy more comfortable. The optional ramp function allows you to lower the pressure when you are trying to fall asleep. The air pressure will gradually increase until the prescribed pressure is reached. The Flex comfort feature provides increased pressure relief during the expiratory phase of breathing, and the AVAPS (Average Volume Assured Pressure Support) feature helps you maintain a target Tidal Volume (VT). AVAPS (available in S, S/T, T and PC modes), is a feature that helps maintain a tidal volume to or greater than the target tidal volume by automatically controlling the pressure support (PS) provided to the patient. The AVAPS feature adjusts the pressure support by varying the IPAP level between the minimum and maximum settings. AVAPS averages the VT and changes the PS value gradually over several minutes. The rate of change is slow so that the patient is not aware of breath to breath pressure changes. As patient effort decreases, AVAPS automatically increases PS to maintain the target VT. The IPAP level will not rise above IPAP Max, even if the target VT is not reached. Conversely, as patient effort increases, AVAPS will reduce PS. IPAP will not fall below IPAP Min, even if the target VT is exceeded. If IPAP Max is reached and the target VT is not achieved, the Low Tidal Volume alarm activates. The BiPAP AVAPS device features the Bi-Flex Comfort Feature. In S, S/T, T and PC modes with Bi-Flex disabled, the device Rise Time (i.e., the time taken for the device to change from EPAP to IPAP) can be set from 1 to 6 levels with 1 as the fastest and 6 as the slowest level.
