This edition of Horse Feeding and Nutrition provides information for those interested in the feeding and nutrition of horses. Three new chapters have been added since the last edition, entitled Feeding and Health-Related Problems, The Complexity of Proper Bone Formation, and Exercise Physiology.

The horse is an icon of civilization. In "Cakes," the narrator buys several cakes with the intention of eating them to become very "Full." But the sudden appearance of a dog and cat at the window so terribly upsets her that she cannot eat the cakes; as the animals remain at her window for days, she postpones her enjoyment, becoming in the end "quite ill." In story after story Levine returns to the impermeability of experience, of not knowing even our own bodies with any certainty. A blackened tooth or a Siamese twin become haunting metaphors for the unreasonable, unfathomable burden of existence that she conveys in wickedly enthralling prose.

Features of topographical anatomy are presented in colour photographs and accompanying line-drawings of detailed dissections. When necessary, information needed for the interpretation of the photographs is given in the captions. Each section begins with photographs of regional surface features before dissection. Pictures of an articulated equine skeleton illustrate the important palpable bony features of these regions. The aim of the dissections and photographs is to reveal the topography of the animal as it would be presented to the veterinary surgeon during a routine clinical examination.
