This is the first one-volume survey in English of religion and devotion in Europe between 1215 and 1515. Intended primarily as a student textbook, it provides essential background for a proper appreciation of medieval Western society. Avoiding the history of institutional structures, the book concentrates on the spirituality that the medieval Church sought to promulgate and control. Its thematic structure provides accessible surveys of major themes, and addresses recent debates about key aspects of medieval Catholicism.

At its height, the Carolingian empire spanned a million square kilometres of western Europe - from the English Channel to central Italy and northern Spain, and from the Atlantic to the fringes of modern Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. As the largest political unit for centuries, the empire dominated the region and left an enduring legacy for European culture. This comprehensive survey traces this great empire's history, from its origins around 700, with the rise to dominance of the Carolingian dynasty, through its expansion by ruthless military conquest and political manoeuvring in the eighth century, to the struggle to hold the empire together in the ninth. It places the complex political narrative in context, giving equal consideration to vital themes such as beliefs, peasant society, aristocratic culture and the economy. Accessibly written and authoritative, this book offers distinctive perspectives on a formative period in European history.

In the public law area, there is an understanding that judicial decision making is not always objective, that the courts are not constrained by the law and the facts of the case, and that courts are actually policy makers influenced by extraneous factors that have little to do the legal and factual matters of a case. Through a combination of an integrative review of the relevant literature in the public law area and new case studies researched by the author, Barbara Yarnold argues that the public law area has discarded the traditional view of the judiciary as a passive interpreter of the law who truly weigh the facts of each case. She examines political and environmental variables that have been used to explain judicial outcomes and develops an original general theory of public law explaining under what circumstances political variables impact court decisions, and when region, as an environmental variable, is related to judicial outcomes. The central question in this study is When exactly do the law and the facts count? As Yarnold's analyses of the judicial decision field draw variables from political science, economics, psychology, and criminal justice, among other fields, this work also suggests that the public law area is multidisciplinary in nature. The book concludes with a case study examination of interest groups involved in asylum-related appeals and their role in the Sanctuary Movement. Students and scholars of public administration, law and society, and public law will find Yarnold's integration of research and current literature toward a general theory of public law highly provocative and interesting.

For decades William L. Langer's best-selling ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WORLD HISTORY was the indispensable, authoritative guide to all of human history. Now, under the direction of a distinguished new editor, comes an updated and dramatically improved version for a new generation, the only encyclopedia of its kind with a bound-in, searchable compact disc of the complete text. The result is a wholly accessible, absorbing canvas of world history that no student, scholar, or amateur historian should be without. Renowned historian Peter N. Stearns and thirty prominent historians have combined their expertise over the past ten years to perfect this comprehensive chronology of more than 20,000 entries that span the millennia from prehistoric times to the year 2000. With a unique format that has won it generations of fans, the ENCYCLOPEDIA continues to feature chronological entries grouped by geographic region, allowing readers to get an in-depth view of distinct events along with a virtual time line of human history. But this new edition is much more than an expansion of a classic; it reflects important recent changes in historical trends and historical thinking. In addition to showcasing traditional facts of national leadership and state power, the Encyclopedia embraces social and cultural developments, non-European history, women's history, religion, health, economics, technology, and other vital but less often reported aspects of the human drama. Here is a chronicle not only of major political events but of ordinary people, covering shifts in the relationships between men and women, developments in leisure, and demographic currents. And for all periods there are summaries of global developments that cannot be captured in national or regional frameworks. As editor Stearns notes in his preface, "The world we know historically has greatly changed. The revisions that animate this edition celebrate this change, benefiting from the labors of countless venturesome scholars over the past several decades." A masterwork whose roots date back to the nineteenth century, this exciting volume belongs at the elbow of every history lover and of anyone who has ever been curious about our constantly changing, remarkably diverse human story.

BBA-LLB BA-LLB Direct Admission through NRI/management quota 2016 in Bangalore Pune & Mumbai ||Call: +91-9916566036 For any query regarding MBBS BDS B.tech B.E. UG Engineering BBA MBA BBM Bcom BA (LLB) BBA (LLB) LLM BCA MCA admission through management quota|| ||If you want to become a law graduate , Call: +919916566036 || There are essentially two routes that are available for you to become BBA-LLB BA-LLB law graduate. One is to take up the 5 years integrated BA LLB or to take up 3 years LLB after completing graduation in any stream. Here we are comparing the two options so that the takers can make an informed decision. Duration: Both these courses lead to a law degree eventually but LLB after graduation takes in all 6 years; therefore many students opt for integrated BA LLB to save 1 year. Option to opt out after 3 years Well, integrated course really makes sense for those students if they are 100% sure that they want to continue only in this particular field, that is the field of Law. This is so because after completing 3 years generally the option to get out is not there in most of the integrated courses, so essentially, if one opts for this option then one has to complete this. Concern of choosing the course again Usually the students have to face two dilemmas; the first one is when one has to choose an option after 12th. The second dilemma comes after completion of the Graduate course. So a big advantage of getting into an integrated BA LLB course is that one is free from the worry of choosing a college and course again after 3 years. This is not the case with those who are doing a normal graduation course. But if you are the one who is not fully sure that career in law is for you (you can know whether law is suitable for you or not by simply taking the MapMyTalent Assessment) or want to keep the option of other professional or higher education options for yourself, then perhaps, a 3 year graduation course would be a good option for you. Availability of seats in reputed College/ University There are many reputed National Law Universities that offer only integrated BA LLB course and then LLM or PG Diploma courses. So there are many seats for 5 years Integrated Course. Other than NLU’s many other universities like Punjab University, AMU, IP University Delhi, etc also offer BA LLB Course. On the other hand LLB is offered at many prestigious central and state universities like Delhi University, Punjab University, BHU, Government law College Mumbai, Bharati Vidyapith, Dr Harisingh Gaur University, MP, Indian Law Society’s Law College in Pune, Punjabi University, Rajasthan University, Law college Dehradun etc., So a large number of seats are available. Also if you have taken admission in a 5 year BA LLB then you have a seat guarantee for 5 years that is you don’t have again look for a seat for admission after graduation. Syllabus As far as syllabus ( Ref Punjab University Syllabus for BA LLB) is concerned since BA LLB is integrated course the students study law papers right from the first semester onwards like Law of Torts, Consumer Protection Laws, Law of contract etc. These law related papers and English is compulsory but the students can choose papers form Political science, History, economics, sociology etc. In the second semester they study Jurisprudence and Special contracts. Like that in every semester there are some papers from the Law field. After 3 years, that is 7th semester onwards the BA papers are taken as major and minor and there are other papers of law like Business law, international law etc. As far as syllabus of LLB is concerned the students takes up LLB after they have already completed their graduation and the course only includes courses from law Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Law of contracts, Family Law , Law of crimes etc. Both the courses include summer training and also the students attend court. Degree In BA LLB after 5 years the student gets two degrees one for BA and another for LLB. While in LLB he gets the degree of LLB. Variants The 5 year integrated LLB degree now has many variants also like there are B.Com LLB, B.Sc LLB and BBA LLB is also available. Just like BA LLB integrates Arts subjects with Law the other courses integrate the subjects from the respective fields with law courses.
