Ratings help the officer’s sail and maintain vessels/ships. They are a kind of helpers for the engineers on engine side and deck officers on deck. The term general purpose means those trained professionals who can handle work both on deck and engine. To become a GP Rating, one has to undergo a 6 month training at any of the DG Shipping approved Institutes. ELIGIBILITY: i.
