EDGEFX - METAL DETECTOR ROBOTIC VEHICLE-DIY(DO IT IN HYDERABAD

  The project is designed to develop a robotic vehicle that can sense metals ahead of it on its path similar to sensing land mines. The detection and removal of these landmines still have been set forward by a manual method proposed several decades ago and practiced since then. Such manual work requires hundreds of years to dispose all these mines completely. The metal detector robotic vehicle system made for detection and removal in a short time period has become an urgent need of the day. The project is designed to develop a robotic vehicle that can sense land mines ahead of it. The robot is controlled by a remote using RF technology. It consists of a metal detector circuit interfaced to the control unit. The alarms signal sounds while coming upon any suspected land mine ahead robot. The microcontroller is used for the desired operation. The metal detector circuit is mounted on the robot body and its operation is carried out automatically on sensing any metal underneath. As soon the robot senses this metal generates an alarm sound. The RF (Radio Frequency remote control) is a short distance wireless device (200meters) used to operate electronic equipment using radio frequency transmission. The RF signals travel from the transmitter to the  receiver  for carrying out the commands for the operation. The RF transmitter sends serial data and transmits to the receiver through an antenna which is connected to the transmitter. The metal detector robotic vehicle can be detect the metals ahead of it on its path.  The system consists of two sections. TRANSMITTING SECTION: This section consists of four switches which are interfaced to the input pins of the microcontroller and encoder is connected output pins of the microcontroller. The RF transmitter is connected to the output pin of the encoder. The four switches are used to control the robot in forward, backward and left and right. They are interfaced to the microcontroller. Normally controller pins are all at logic high state means ‘1111’.Whenever the  required switch is pressed  the corresponding pin goes to logic low state means ‘0111’. This data is encoded by the encoder and is sent to the RF transmitter. The RF transmitter sends this encoded data serially to RF receiver. RECEIVING SECTION: The decoder output data pins are connected to the input of the microcontroller through pull-up resistors. The RF receiver is connected to input pin of the decoder. Here two DC motors are interfaced to the output pins of the microcontroller through a driver IC. The RF receiver receives the 4- bit encoded data from RF transmitter. The decoder receives the data serially from RF receiver and decodes it. The decoder IC sends the parallel data to input of the microcontroller. The robot is then able to move in the required direction based on command from the microcontroller program. The metal detector circuit is interfaced to the control unit of robot that works like a sensor. The metal detector circuit is constructed with coil, capacitors and a buzzer. When the metal is detected, the resonance of the coil is disturbed and alarm sound is generated. A set of switch buttons are connected to the input of the microcontroller. While the particular button is pressed the program is executed that delivers corresponding 4-bit data which are then transmitted serially as explained above. The data received at the receiver end of port operates the motor through motor driver IC as required being interfaced from the microcontroller. CONSLUSION: The metal detection robot is used for finding the landmine when robot moves on the earth. The detection and removal of landmines is an important worldwide concern. This system is used for detecting and locating landmines efficiently and effectively. It can be easily operated. The purpose of the metal detector robotic vehicle system is achieved to detect and remove the landmines in a short time period and it has become a necessity.  For these reasons our project presents far more advantages. FUTURE SCOPE: The metal detector robotic vehicle system can sense the metals ahead of it and it moves on natural ground surfaces including roads and tracks in a similar manner to human operator. This project can be enhanced by mounting a wireless camera on the robot so that the operator can control the movement of the robot remotely by watching it on a screen. BLOCK DIAGRAM FOR TRANSMITTER The metal detector robotic vehicle system can sense the metals ahead of it.  This system consists of two blocks which are transmitting block and receiving block. The transmitter block consists mainly of two blocks which are switching block and transmitting block. The transmitter is powered by a 6v battery for driving the circuit. The switching block is an input device and RF transmitter is the output device which is interfaced to the microcontroller.  Whenever the switch is pressed the data is sent serially from the transmitter which is received by the tuned receiver. BLOCK DIAGRAM FOR RECEIVER The receiving block consists of power supply, RF receiver, metal detector and motors. The RF receiver and metal detector are input devices and motors are output devices which are interfaced to the microcontroller.The 6v battery pack in a  plastic casing  can take four batteries and also a 9v output on clip connectors. The metal detector is used to sense the metal and  triggers the buzzer to give the alarm signal. The robot is controlled in different directions based on RF commands. The RF receiver decodes the signals from RF transmitter. The motors rotate based on input from the microcontroller. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: 8051 series Microcontroller, RF Tx-Rx, LED, Crystal, Resistors, Capacitors, Diodes, Voltage Regulators, Metal Detector, DC Motors, Motor Driver, Encoder, Decoder, Push Buttons.
