With that said this chip has been compatible with the following motherboard and bios combinations according to users around the web:  Supermicro X9DAI, BIOS Ver 1.0a.  Note BIOS ver 1.0b will not work with any ES chips of stepping code earlier than C0. ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS, any bios up to ver 3103 (Note downgrade may not be possible)  ASUS Z9PE-D6 WS, bios 0703 ASUS P9X79 (bios ver 1101, 0605), Sabertooth X79 Bios Ver 0906 (0803), and Rampage IV.  *** If yours is of ASUS board, please do NOT upgrade its BIOS with.cap style one. Its almost impossible to go back and It won't boot up with ES chips of stepping code earlier than C0, and note this chip is of stepping B0 *** Asrock Extreme 3 Bios Ver P1.5 and P2.4, Asrock {fatal1ty, champion} Bios Ver P1.40 Gigabyte UD5 Bios Ver F10 I expect lots of X79 based desktop single socket boards are compatible with this CPU, depending on its bios version but no guarantees are made or implied.
