What is the ACT(American College Testing)? The ACT (No Writing) consists of four multiple-choice tests: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The ACT Plus Writing includes the four multiple-choice tests and a Writing Test. The ACT test is: A standardized test 2 hours and 55 minutes long (3 hours and 25 minutes with the optional Writing Test) Composed of 215 questions Multiple-choice (except in the case of the optional Writing Test, which involves writing) The ACT is composed of 4 main tests and 1 optional test: Math (60 questions, 60 minutes) Measures mathematical skills students have typically acquired in courses taken up to the beginning of grade 12. Science Reasoning (40 questions, 35 minutes) Measures the interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required in the natural sciences. English (75 questions, 45 minutes) Measures standard written English and rhetorical skills. Reading (40 questions, 35 minutes) Measures reading comprehension. Writing (optional, 1 prompt, 30 minutes) Measures writing skills emphasized in high school English classes and in entry-level college composition courses. Scoring Your Composite score and each test score (English, Mathematics, Reading, Science) range from 1 (low) to 36 (high). The Composite Score is the average of your four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number. Fractions less than one-half are rounded down; fractions one-half or more are rounded up.
